Connecting your Windows Mobile 2003 device via WLAN

From SynCE-Wiki

Introduction

As it happens with Microsoft ActiveSync, after having set up a partnership via USB you may connect via WLAN for further syncing. You only need to set the hostname of your desktop via Pocket Hosts.

It has been reported that Pocket Hosts doesn't work with Windows Mobile 2003 devices, however it works for me. If you have a registry editor, you can tweak the registry instead: \HKLM\Comm\Tcpip\Hosts.

Steps

1.- Set partnership with cable/cradle connection

2.- Create the entry in the Windows Mobile registry key \HKLM\Comm\Tcpip\Hosts.

   Using Pocket Hosts.
   Manually:
   - adding a subkey with the name of the linux machine
   - adding a Binary Value in the subkey named ipaddr with the linux machine IP address in Hexadecimal

3.- Open ActiveSync in you device and select you linux machine in: Tools > Options > Use this machine

4.- Leave checked the Synchronize with this machine during manual sync box.

5.- Just press Synchronize in ActiveSync main window ... and your device is connected! (Forget about synce-serial-start)

6.- Run MultiSync or OpenSync for syncing, explore files in the device or add programs ....

Problems

If your device doesn't connect, ping from the Linux machine to the device and vice versa. Usually, the problem is lack of TCP-IP communication due to bad configuration options!
